EXTERIOR CONSIDERATIONS:
- Siting – the siting of this house is incredible and credit for that goes 100% to the homeowner! The lot was a heavily treed and therefore difficult to visualize. In the end the views are spectacular, and the house sits beautifully amongst the natural landscape. Although we only got 4’ of southern exposure to the common rooms, the space is bright and open. I think this is largely due to the number of windows and flat ceilings that reflect the natural light into the space.
- Low maintenance materials: aluminum railing, facia, and soffit, composite decking (vinyl in the screen porch area), James Hardie siding and Smart trims.
INTERIOR CONSIDERATIONS:
- We were going for a bright, cozy space that would be enduring and classic. Function and flow for their lifestyle was high priority.
BUDGET CONSIDERATIONS:
- Downsizing retirement home with room for overnight guests and entertaining. To help control budget costs the homeowner hewed, stained, and finished all the timbers and mantel. His work was a labor of love and is the most stunning feature of the house.
HOMEOWNER PRIORITIES:
- To design and build smart: design spaces you need in the most economical way possible and then with that to make it as stunning as possible.
