Living in the mountains in Cranbrook and Kimberley is all about having time to enjoy our surroundings; the views, the recreation and our homes.
For me, good home design starts with the lot; its compass orientation, shape, slope, access, views, and surrounding masses (buildings, large trees) are all important considerations. The floor plan should maximize views, morning and winter sun, and privacy. The home’s shape, roof lines and position on the lot should leave you with comfortable recreating space for whatever capacity you see yourself using it; entertaining, gardening, future shop, playing with the kids….or like my home – all of the above.

A well-designed house should:
- Encompass all the rooms you want and put them together in a way that makes for easy, everyday living
- Have a logical “flow” and a place for everything – no matter what your budget or square footage
- Utilize space to its maximum potential
I believe good design naturally creates, what I call, “Zen” pleasures as you move from space to space. In other words, the home “feels right”. Most of us know when a space “feels right” but we may not know why and vice versa. Why does a space feel unwelcoming or just “OK”? Well, it’s a combination of many things; human scale, sight lines, views, traffic flow, privacy, proportion and balance of features, and balance of lighting; natural and artificial. Overwhelming isn’t it? No worries. Together we’ll get it right.
I love working with my clients’ vision. I want to hear about that special feature you have your heart set on; feature fireplace, bathtub, kitchen hearth, or whatever it may be. It’s a great way to start the design process and gives the project direction. In fact, the more “I’ve always wanted” you can give me, the easier my job is.
Let’s get drafting! I’m excited already! Are you?

Charlton Homes built our home at Columbia Lake. The project started in July of 2014 and we took occupancy in January of 2015. The building process proceeded without a hitch. When issues did arise Jody or Brian took control and acted in our best interest. Charlton Homes takes great pride in both their workmanship and creative design capabilities. They provided us with a superior product on time and within budget. We highly recommend Charlton Homes.
